Jio Platforms IPO Listing Close: Shares End 27% Up at ₹1,418 on Debut

Jio Platforms Ltd closed its first day on the stock exchanges with a strong gain on Wednesday, 28 October 2026. The shares ended the debut session at about ₹1,417.50 on the NSE, up ₹298.50 or 26.68% over the IPO issue price of ₹1,119, after listing at ₹1,358 — a 21.36% premium. The stock touched a day high of ₹1,423.90 during the session.

The debut makes Jio Platforms India's second-largest listed company by market value, at roughly ₹13.05 lakh crore, behind only its parent Reliance Industries. The ₹30,213 crore IPO — India's largest ever — had been subscribed 22.19 times overall, with qualified institutional buyers bidding 70.55 times their portion.

What allottees made on listing day

Investors who received allotment in the IPO made a listing-day gain of ₹298.50 per share. With a lot size of 12 shares, one allotted lot was worth ₹13,428 at the issue price and about ₹17,010 at the close — a profit of ₹3,582 per lot before charges. The IPO had drawn around 1.39 crore applications, and demand across the public issue and anchor placement crossed ₹7.4 lakh crore.

At the listing ceremony, Reliance Jio Infocomm chairman Akash Ambani said the issue was fully subscribed within about 100 minutes of opening, and that the company's platforms now serve more than 540 million customers.

GMP vs reality: grey market got the direction right

Before listing, grey market premium (GMP) trackers had indicated Jio listing around ₹1,363–1,377, roughly 22% above the issue price. The actual listing at ₹1,358 was almost exactly in that range, but the stock kept climbing through the day to close nearly 27% above the issue price — beating the pre-listing estimates. GMP is unofficial and unregulated, and it is not a forecast of the listing price.

Brokerages stay positive after the debut

Nomura, Motilal Oswal Financial Services and Elara Securities have initiated coverage on Jio Platforms with Buy ratings. Nomura noted that Jio, once the disruptor, is now the market leader, with about 42% of India's wireless subscribers, 60% of data traffic and 43% of home broadband, and estimated a 13.5% EBITDA CAGR over FY26–29. Analysts say the key things to watch next are quarterly revenue growth, EBITDA margins, ARPU and cash flows — and whether the company can sustain tariff-led growth.

What to watch next for Jio Platforms

  • Q2 FY27 results on 30 October 2026 — the first quarterly numbers as a listed company, and the next big trigger for the stock.
  • Index inclusion — not immediate, since derivatives on the stock must be introduced first.
  • Valuation — at the closing price the stock trades at a premium to Bharti Airtel, leaving room for profit booking after the debut pop.
